LSAC GPA Calculator (CAS Method)

Enter the grades and credits from every college transcript and see your law school GPA, the CAS GPA, the way the Credential Assembly Service converts it, next to the GPA your school shows. How LSAC calculates your GPA

  1. Every undergraduate course with a convertible grade counts, from every college you attended before your first bachelor’s degree was conferred, community colleges and transfer schools included.
  2. Each grade is converted to LSAC’s 4.0 scale with the table below. An A+ is 4.33, even if your school stops at 4.0.
  3. Credits are counted in semester hours. Trimester hours count the same; quarter hours are multiplied by 0.67.
  4. Grade points × credits, added up, ÷ total credits is the LSAC GPA. If a course was repeated, every attempt that shows a grade and credits on the transcript counts.

Left out: pass/fail and other one- or two-pass-grade courses, AP credits, nonpunitive withdrawals and incompletes, noncredit courses, and anything taken after your first bachelor’s degree. Don’t enter those. Failing grades count as 0.00, even where your school ignores them, except a nonpunitive Withdraw/Fail.

A worked example: one transfer student

Community college: Calculus I, 4 credits, A+; English Composition, 3 credits, A; Chemistry I, 4 credits, C, then retaken for an A−. University: Microeconomics, 3 credits, B; Ethics, 3 credits, A+. In high school the student also took Introduction to Psychology for college credit, 3 credits, B+.

LSAC counts all seven grades on 24 credits: 17.32 + 12.00 + 8.00 + 14.68 + 9.00 + 12.99 + 9.99 = 83.98 points, so 83.98 ÷ 24 = 3.50.

The school GPA leaves out the replaced C and the high school course and caps the A+ at 4.0: 63.68 points on 17 credits, or 3.75. Most of the gap is the retaken C: without it the LSAC GPA would be 3.80. Applying in the 2027–2028 cycle or later, the psychology course drops out of the LSAC GPA too: 73.99 ÷ 21 = 3.52.

Applying in 2027–2028? Dual enrollment drops out

For the 2026–2027 application cycle, grades for college credits earned in high school count in the LSAC GPA for all applicants. From the 2027–2028 cycle on, LSAC leaves them out for every applicant, reapplicants from earlier years included. Mark those rows “In high school” and switch the cycle above the table to see both numbers.

LSAC GPA questions

Why is my LSAC GPA different from my transcript GPA?

LSAC converts every grade to one scale: an A+ is 4.33 and each minus is 0.33 below the letter. It also counts every attempt of a repeated course, failing grades your school leaves out, and grades from every college you attended before your first bachelor’s degree, not only the one that awarded it.

Does LSAC count retaken classes?

Yes. If the transcript shows the grade and credits for both attempts, both count in the LSAC GPA, even if your school replaced the first grade. Mark the earlier attempt “Replaced by retake”: the calculator keeps it in the LSAC GPA and drops it from the school GPA.

Do dual enrollment and AP credits count in the LSAC GPA?

AP credits never do; LSAC reports them as unconverted credits. Grades for college courses taken in high school count in the 2026–2027 application cycle. From the 2027–2028 cycle on, LSAC leaves them out for every applicant, reapplicants included. Pick your cycle above the table.

Do graduate school grades count in the LSAC GPA?

No. Everything taken after your first bachelor’s degree was conferred is left out, including undergraduate courses taken later. You still have to send those transcripts, and law schools may weigh that work. Enter only courses from before your degree date.

How do quarter hours count in the LSAC GPA?

LSAC reports all credits as semester hours: trimester hours count the same and quarter hours are multiplied by 0.67. If all your schools used quarters, the GPA does not change. If you mix quarter and semester schools, enter quarter credits × 0.67, so a 4-quarter-hour course is 2.68.
