About Calculator for Grading

A free grading calculator for teachers: type the number of questions and the number wrong, and the percent, the letter grade and the full chart are there as you type.

Who runs it

Calculator for Grading is an independent project run by one person, Rainer Lang. No school, publisher or software company is behind it. If a result looks wrong, that is my mistake to fix, and I would like to hear about it.

The site is written for US teachers and I am based in Germany. The default letter scale is the common 10-point scale, and every cut-off can be changed, because schools set their own.

How it works

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The score is (questions − wrong) ÷ questions × 100, rounded half up to the decimals you choose; the rounding rule in force is printed under every result. The math is checked by automated tests every time the site is built.

The numbers you type never leave your device. There are no accounts and no sign-up. Your question count and settings are kept in your own browser so they are there next time. Details are in the privacy policy.
